Ten years ago, Machs supplied a complete FRP stair and platform system for Glenelg Wharf in Adelaide, Australia.
The wharf is one of South Australia’s most popular tourist and leisure destinations. It welcomes thousands of visitors every day.
Because the site is exposed to seawater, salt spray, and strong UV radiation, the local authority needed a long-lasting solution. The priority was durability, safety, and low maintenance.

Glenelg Wharf in Adelaide, Australia
Project Challenges
Before the upgrade, the wharf had several problems. Metal stairs were quickly corroded by the marine environment.
Wooden structures created safety risks, especially when wet and slippery.
At the same time, the government required compliance with strict safety and environmental standards. Frequent maintenance and high costs were not acceptable.
Machs Solution
Machs delivered an FRP stair and platform system designed for coastal conditions.
The yellow anti-slip grating provided secure access for the public. FRP’s natural resistance to saltwater and UV kept the structure strong and stable.
The material is both lightweight and strong. This made installation faster and reduced overall structural load.
Because FRP requires no painting or rust protection, the solution reduced long-term maintenance to the lowest level.

Results After Ten Years
Recently, after attending the 2025 AIMEX exhibition in Australia, we revisited our project at Glenelg Wharf that was completed ten years ago.
The FRP stair and platform we supplied remain structurally sound with no major damage or deformation. The anti-slip surface still performs reliably, even in wet marine conditions.
Only simple cleaning has been required over the years. This once again confirms the long-term durability and economic value of Machs FRP products in demanding coastal environments.
Conclusion
The Glenelg Wharf project demonstrates the value of Machs FRP products.
After ten years of daily use, the system continues to deliver safety and reliability with minimal maintenance.
For marine, municipal, industrial, and public projects, Machs provides FRP solutions that are durable, safe, and cost-efficient.
